A step of forming a fiber tow, in which cellulose pulp is dissolved in an alkaline aqueous solvent to produce a cellulose spinning stock solution composition, in a coagulation bath having a pH above 7.0, preferably at least 10. The produced fiber tow is used in a series of continuous drawing steps and washing steps in which the fiber tow is washed with a washing liquid by a step of spinning the cellulose spinning stock solution composition to generate a fiber tow and a countercurrent washing procedure.
