An automated grain inspection apparatus for a production line is provided that includes an inlet for receiving grains and an outlet for discharging grains. A feeder is provided configured to receive the granules from the inlet and discharge the granules arranged in a line, while at least one camera is positioned laterally below the feeder to capture images of the granules while falling. At least one background surface positioned laterally below the feeder and opposite to the camera is also provided in the inspection zone and is configured to align the grains between the camera and the background surface.
