The disclosure provides a dynamic selection of threshold hold time for hands-free driving. A vehicle includes an automated driving assistance system that controls the maneuvering of the vehicle under certain conditions. When the vehicle comes to a standstill, the driving assistance system dynamically selects a threshold stop time corresponding to a period of time during which the vehicle can be stopped before the driving assistance system detects either a physical action from the user, to resume automated driving assistance or to exceed and terminate the driving assistance time.
