An automatically-returning water sampling device for hydrological exploration and a working method therefor are disclosed and relate to the technical field of smart water exploration. For the automatically-returning water sampling device for hydrological exploration, a cutting device is arranged circumferentially on the water sampling bottle. During a descent process in sampling, the cutting device removes redundant seagrass, ensures that the sampling bottle descends smoothly to a preset depth and that a preconfigured sampling can be performed smoothly. A locator is provided on the top of the water sampling bottle to monitor in real time the position of the water sampler, acquires the depth by means of a pressure sensor, and prevents errors arising from measurement using a steel wire rope. A counterweight body is released by means of a release mechanism such that the water sampling bottle ascends under positive buoyancy and performs profile sampling during the ascent.
