A micrometer-scale or nanometer-scale device is described that can include integrated circuit logic based on sub-10 nm SIA transistor nodes, a sensing subsystem, a decision subsystem, a validation subsystem, and a power harvesting system. The sensing subsystem may identify pathogenic entities including disease-associated cells (eg, cancer cells, autoimmune cells, or pathological microorganisms) or viruses. The sensing subsystem may include at least one pad comprised of an electrically conductive material and a linker attached to the at least one pad.
