The present invention relates to a method for promoting cessation or reduction of smoking and/or chewing of tobacco or nicotine containing products in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a particular carbamate compound. The present invention further relates to a method of preventing smoking and/or relapse of chewing of tobacco or nicotine-containing products in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a particular carbamate compound.
