To provide methods for promoting smoking cessation.SOLUTION: The invention relates to the use of an effective amount of a certain carbamate compound for production of a pharmaceutical to promote cessation or reduction in the smoking and/or chewing of tobacco or nicotine-containing products in a subject who is neither addicted to nor dependent on nicotine.
