Magnetic separator and magnetic sorting process

A magnetic separator and a magnetic sorting method are provided which can precisely and efficiently separate magnetic material and non-magnetic material with a simple structure. The magnetic separator comprises a granule mixture supply section 2 which supplies a granule mixture 7 so that it falls naturally; a rotary drum 3 with part of an outer surface 31 which is arranged on a fall path 8 of the granulate mixture 7, the rotary drum 3 being driven to rotate in an opposite direction R relative to the direction of fall of the granulate mixture 7; a first magnet 4 which exerts a magnetic attraction force on a certain area defined by the rotation in the opposite direction R with a sorting area G as a starting point; a natural falling area P into which the granular mixture 7 that has come into contact with the rotary drum 3 naturally falls; and a conveyed fall area Q into which the granulate mixture naturally falls after being magnetically attracted by the rotary drum 3 and conveyed.
