The method for monitoring battery safety includes the following steps. A voltage of a battery of the terminal device is acquired in real time, and temperature of each area of a battery surface of the battery is acquired in real time, where the battery surface is divided into multiple areas. Whether a sudden change in voltage has occurred to the battery is determined according to the voltage of the battery acquired in real time, and whether the battery surface has an abnormal temperature area is determined according to the temperature of each area. Upon determining that the sudden change in voltage has occurred to the battery and the battery surface has the abnormal temperature area, the battery is determined to be currently abnormal.
