The present invention relates to a process for producing butadiene from ethanol, in two reaction steps, comprising a step a) of conversion of the ethanol to acetaldehyde and a step b) of conversion to butadiene, said step b) simultaneously carrying out a reaction step and a regeneration step in (n+n/2) fixed-bed reactors, n being equal to 2 or to a multiple thereof, comprising a catalyst, wherein said regeneration step comprises 4 successive regeneration phases, said step b) also using a loop for regeneration of the inert gas and at least one loop for regeneration of the gas streams comprising oxygen.
