An image and XRF mineral inversion-based lithology identification system and method, which do not rely on manual identification, take a short time, are not easy to cause false determination, can automatically identify lithology, and have high working efficiency. The identification system comprises an automatic driving vehicle (1), a probe (6), image acquisition devices (4), and a vehicle-mounted processor (7). The probe (6) is an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer for detecting the element information of surrounding rock, and the vehicle-mounted processor (7) inverts the received element information of the surrounding rock in a region to be measured into mineral information. The recognition method comprises receiving surrounding rock images and corresponding inclination angles, converting image information into a one-dimensional vector format, then combining same with mineral information in a one-dimensional format, and identifying rock lithology on the basis of the combined information.
