FUSION SPLICING SYSTEM FOR OPTICAL FIBERS, FUSION SPLICER, MODEL CREATION DEVICE, AND METHOD FOR FUSION SPLICING OPTICAL FIBERS

This fusion splicing system is provided with a model creation device and a plurality of fusion splicers. The model creation device performs machine learning using sample data indicating a correspondence relationship between feature amounts obtained from imaging data of optical fibers and the types of the optical fibers, and creates a determination model for determining the types of optical fibers to be spliced on the basis of the imaging data of the optical fibers. Each of the fusion splicers has an imaging unit, a determination unit, and a splicing unit. The imaging unit captures an image of a pair of optical fibers and generates imaging data. The determination unit inputs feature amounts to the determination model and determines the respective types of the pair of optical fibers. The splicing unit fusion splices the pair of optical fibers on a splicing condition corresponding to a combination of the types of the pair of optical fibers on the basis of the result of the determination by the determination unit. The model creation device classifies the plurality of fusion splicers into two or more groups estimated to have similar tendencies of imaging data, and collects the sample data group by group to create the determination model.
