The disclosure relates to a method of dynamically notifying a user of his or her stress level in an electronic device, and the electronic device. A method of operating an electronic device may include: obtaining first data including information about movement of a user; obtaining second data including biological information of the user; obtaining Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep time periods and stress data before and after sleep, based on the first data and the second data; setting parameters for calculating a recovery index, based on the obtained REM sleep time period and stress data before and after sleep; and calculating the recovery index, based on the set parameters.
