To provide a methane fermentation system and a monitoring method of methanogens in which the number of methanogens during methane fermentation can be measured on-site and in real-time in methane fermentation facility.SOLUTION: A methane fermentation system comprises: a methane fermentation tank which ferments biomass by using methanogens and produces methane gas; a circulation conduit which is connected to the methane fermentation tank, pulls out a part of digestive juice inside the methane fermentation tank, and furthermore returns it to the methane fermentation tank; and a detection part which detects an amount of the methanogens passing through the circulation conduit in a non-contact manner.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
