A yeast product for use as a prebiotic preparation and a composition comprising the same are provided. Also provided are non-therapeutic uses of yeast products and compositions comprising them as prebiotic agents. Yeast products and compositions comprising them promote the growth of bacteria of the phylum Bacteroidetes in the mammalian gut microbiota.
