The invention relates to a method of typing a germ cell tumor, comprising analyzing germ cell tumor cells for an amplification status of a region on chromosome 3p, preferably 3p25. Amplification of said region on chromosome 3p indicates that cells are or will become resistant towards a platinum-based antineoplastic drug. The invention further relates to methods of treating a patient suffering from a germ cell tumor.
