Pyrolytic gas generating device (100) for generating synthesis gas from a charring starting material, at least comprising: - a vertically aligned shaft gasifier unit (20) with a downwardly open gasifier shaft (21); - a heat generator unit (30) for heating the gasifier shaft (21) and - a discharge unit arranged below the gasifier shaft (21) with at least one motor-driven conveying element which is conveyed away from the gasifier shaft (21) (24), which is connected to the gasifier shaft (21) via at least one gas passage opening (23). The wall (22) is provided in at least one further partial area with at least one gas passage opening (25) to which a synthesis gas discharge duct (26) is connected. The gas passage openings (23, 25) for the synthesis gas discharge duct (26) and the hot air duct (24) are arranged on opposite sides of the gasification shaft (21).
