A reliable sub-surface scattering method for volume rendering in a 3D ultrasound image is disclosed. In the subsurface scattering method for volume rendering according to an embodiment, a light-distribution template is generated by using diffuse reflection properties generated according to the density of objects constituting volume data in ultrasound image data. to do; calculating an intensity of light scattered on the ultrasound image data through subsurface scattering using the generated light distribution template; and adjusting a scattering area of light based on the calculated intensity of light by performing a coordinate transformation process between different coordinate systems for visualizing the ultrasound image data.
