Use of histone modification factors to reprogram effector T cells

The present disclosure provides a method for reprogramming an effector T cell into a central memory phenotype, including incubating effector T cells with histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) and IL-21. A method of treating a cancer comprising administering central memory T cells is further provided.
