Backing up data logs in memory devices

A device having non-volatile memory to store a forensic key and data, the data being received by a host computing system. A processing device is coupled to the non-volatile memory and is intended to: permit the host computing system to write the data to an area of the non-volatile memory; in response to a lock signal received from the host computing system, activate a lock on the area of non-volatile memory; wherein the interlock is intended to restrict access to the area of the non-volatile working memory by an external device; and provide unrestricted access to the area of non-volatile memory by the external device in response to verification of the forensic key received from the external device.
