Mutations in the extracellular domain III of the epidermal growth factor receptor gene

The present invention relates to newly identified mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor gene that result in amino acid changes that are strongly associated with resistance to treatment regimens including cetuximab. The present invention relates to peptide sequences and primers for detecting mutations and kits for predicting a subject's responsiveness to a therapeutic regimen comprising cetuximab. In particular, the present invention is useful for therapeutic regimens applicable to metastatic colorectal cancer.
