The present invention provides an encoded chemical library microbead comprising: (i) an encoding tag immobilized thereon and/or therein; and (ii) a target assay system reporter moiety, wherein the reporter moiety is in a first state in the absence of activity against the target and in a second state in the presence of said activity, wherein said microbead is releasable thereto. Encoded chemical library microbeads are linked and further comprising a clonal population of one or more chemical construct(s) encoded by the tag.
