A system with a self-checking function is proposed, comprising at least one system component having at least one technical function, an error simulation unit integrated into the system, a self-checking unit integrated into the system, and a verification control unit integrated into the system, where at least one system component is coupled to the fault simulation unit, the fault simulation unit is trained to influence the operation of the system component to the extent that at least one technical function is selectively impaired and the self-testing unit is trained to do so;monitor the operating parameters of the system component and generate a warning signal indicating an impairment of at least one technical function, and the verification control unit is trained to do so; compare the warning signals generated by the self-test unit with the expected warning signals depending on the technical functions affected.
