The method comprises: acquiring an original file to be updated in a terminal device, and acquiring an updated target file corresponding to the original file (S101); dividing the updated target file into blocks to obtain N target blocks, wherein N is an integer greater than one (S102); allocating, according to a load balancing algorithm, the N target blocks to different computing modules respectively so as to instruct each computing module to execute: computing the incremental data of the acquired target blocks with respect to an original block, wherein the original block is the original file or part of the original file (S103); and acquiring incremental data respectively returned by each computing module, and returning each piece of incremental data to the terminal device so as to instruct the terminal device to update the original file according to each piece of incremental data (S104). The method can improve the file updating efficiency of a terminal device to a certain extent.
