FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of alkaline chitin and its derivatives, chitosan and its derivatives. Method of producing alkaline chitosan, chitin or derivatives thereof with low endotoxin content involves contacting chitosan, chitin, a chitosan derivative or a chitin derivative with an alkaline solution having concentration of 0.01M to 0.2M to obtain a mixture. Mixture is left for a period of less than 12 hours and dried.
