The invention relates to a method and a device for assisting the landing of an aircraft in conditions of degraded visibility. The method makes it possible to receive sensor data during an approach phase to a landing strip where the landing strip and / or an approach ramp are not visible to the pilot from the cockpit; then determine from the received sensor data data of interest characteristic of the landing runway and / or the approach ramp; then calculate from the data of interest the coordinates of a target area; and to display on a head-up display screen a compliant symbol representative of the target zone, the compliant symbol is displayed before the aircraft reaches the decision height in order to provide the pilot with a visual cue in which look for the airstrip and / or the approach ramp.
