PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical monitoring method. A medical surveillance method comprises using an implantable cardiac surveillance device implanted in a patient to obtain an amplitude-modulated (AM) ECG signal by the patient's respiration. The AM ECG signal is analyzed to identify the patient's respiratory pattern. The identified breathing pattern is shown to the user. [Selection diagram] Fig. 1
