The present disclosure generally relates to novel Bacillus species variants capable of producing more of the industry-related protein of interest. Specific embodiments of the present disclosure relate to cells of the modified Bacillus species containing an introductory polynucleotide encoding a mutant GlcT protein. Other embodiments relate to methods and compositions for producing the endogenous and / or heterologous proteins of interest in modified Bacillus species (daughter) cells, while certain other embodiments relate to the present. Nucleic acid sequences encoding the disclosed mutant GlcT proteins, particularly polynucleotide open reading frame (ORF) sequences, their vectors and their DNA expression constructs, are of interest.
