PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrosurgical tool for rapid evaporation ionized mass spectrometry ("REIMS"). A first apparatus 1 for generating an aerosol, smoke, or vapor 5 from one or more regions of a target and an inflow conduit for an ion analyzer or mass spectrometer, which is an aerosol, smoke, or vapor. A device comprising an inflow conduit having an inlet through which the 5 passes and a venturipump configuration configured and adapted to direct the aerosol, smoke, or vapor 5 towards the inlet.
