PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing carbon nanotubes with high efficiency even when dispensing with the conventional formation step.SOLUTION: A catalyst substrate for production of a carbon nanotube assembly according to one embodiment has: a substrate; and a catalyst precursor layer that is provided on a substrate and contains the substrate, catalytic metal elements, co-catalytic metal elements with an electron affinity of 50 kJ/mol or more, and an alloying aid material that prevents the catalytic metal elements or the co-catalytic metal elements from aggregating at the time of heating, and promotes the mixture between the catalytic metal elements and the co-catalytic metal elements.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
