PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a split cycle engine which does not require a separate liquid for suppressing a temperature rise of a compression cylinder. SOLUTION: A split cycle engine 10 has a compression cylinder 12 that performs an intake stroke and a compression stroke, a fuel injector 60 that injects liquid ammonia as a fuel into the compression cylinder 12, and an air-fuel mixture in which air and ammonia are mixed. It has an expansion cylinder 14 that receives the fuel from the compression cylinder 12 and performs a combustion expansion stroke and an exhaust stroke. The heat of vaporization of ammonia, which is a fuel, suppresses the temperature rise in the compression cylinder 12. [Selection diagram] Fig. 1
