In order to improve the joining of two fiber composite components (10), it is proposed to produce joining surfaces (40) on the components (10) to be joined by means of laser radiation (29) on which fibers (16) are exposed. The fibers (16) are exposed in such a way that when the fiber composite components (10) are glued, the fibers (16) run parallel in layers and protrude over more than half the distance between the respective joining surfaces (40). Furthermore, a processing device (22) with a laser source (24) is proposed which can generate laser radiation (29) in a high-energy mode and a low-energy mode. In the high-energy mode, the laser radiation is able to vaporize fiber composite material, i.e. matrix (14) and fibers (16), while the laser radiation (29) can only vaporize the matrix (14) in low-energy mode.
