Collectors; conductors.-The trolley pole 5, hinged to the standard 3, is held up by springs 7 attached to an upward extension 2 of the standard. It can be depressed by the roller-ended arm 13, which is pulled down by a cord 15 passing down the standard and round guidepulleys to a drum 30 on the driver's platform. Ratchet gear worked by the hand-lever 27, in conjunction with a band brake and foot-lever 31, is used to wind in or to release the cord, a fixed stop 33 tripping the pawl when necessary. Similar gear is placed at each end of the vehicle. The slack of the cord may be taken up by a drum 16. The standard and pole are turned by a worm-wheel 50 attached to the swivelling part 38 of the standard and driven through a worm shaft 51 by chain gearing 55 at each end of the vehicle. The worm-wheel 50 may be connected to the swivelling standard only when the pole is lowered by a clutch pin 60, which is dropped into notches by a stop on the cord 15. The upper part 3 of the standard may telescope on the lower part 38, which works in the base as usual, thus allowing for the addition of an upper roof. To guide the trolley wheel 9 on to the trolley wire 72, the guide and stop plates 73, 77 are mounted on either side of the wire, and may be connected to it to stiffen it at that point.
