Secondary b a t - teries.-Fig. 1 shows an electrode or support for the active material, and Fig. 4 a vertical section o n an enlarged scale of a portion of the electrode. The part of the electrode that is to be coated w i t h active material is, without cutting out any metal from the plate, formed into a number of parallel bands a, b, transversely corrugated, with the corrugations o f any one band interspaced with those of the adjacent band. The corrugations are made by operating upon the plate with a pair of corrugated rolls or a pair of corrugated dies. The rolls and dies are made by clamping together a number of discs or strips, then cutting corrugations across all of them, then unclamping them and arranging them with the corrugations of any one disc or strip interspaced with those of adjacent discs or strips, and securely fixing them in relation to one another. The invention also consists in supporting electrodes of any construction by means of rods k of glass, ebonite, or the like which pass through them, the plates being distanced from each other by washers of glass, ebonite, or the like arranged on the rods.
