Lift valves; packing- materials.-A screw-down tap or valve, for steam, water, spirits, or other liquids, fitted with a specially-packed valve e disc, is shown in Fig. 1, as a spirit tap. A conical plug or packing C, composed of a mixture of antimony sulphide, asbestos, and rubber dough, is secured inside the cup-shaped valve disc B. The sulphide and asbestos are ground up and incorporated with the rubber dough, and the composition is then moulded to the required shape. The plug may be secured to the valve disc by means of a stud, and the composition may be used for other forms of valves.
