5686. Bazim, L. March 11. Potato planters.-Relates to a machine for planting and covering in potatoes, Jerusalem artichokes, and other tubers. The main frame a is supported on a pair of steering-wheels in front, and on a pair of larger wheels behind. One of the rear wheels is loose on the main axle, while the other is fast with the axle which, by means of the spur gearing p, q and chain gearing s, t, u, drives the lower roller of a cup elevator j. The tubers are delivered singly by the elevator from a receptacle i into a seed tube l situated between a drill former g and covering-in blades h. The rear end of the main frame, with the tools attached, can be raised on the main axle by means of a handlever v pivoted on the axle and working in conjunction with a quadrant w on the frame. Axleguides z are fixed to the frame. The cups on the elevator are exchangeable, to suit the size of the tubers to be planted. Passages are formed by plates for the elevator inside the receptacle i.
