Ball - and - socket fastenings. - Flexible closure strips 4 are secured to the two sides of a placket in such a manner that the parts of ball-and-socket snap fasteners 7 engage when the strips are superposed. Each strip is stiffened by flexible sections 5 secured to the cloth of the skirt, or to a piece of fabric 6. As shown in Fig. 1, a space is left between the sections 5, and the fastenings 7 are secured to fabric at these spaces. The stiffening- section consists of a flat strip of flexible wire bent as shown in Fig. 1. In Fig. 7 another form of strip 5a is shown. The sections 5 may be secured to a piece of tape &c., or may be arranged in tubular coverings 8 as shown in Fig. 5, each section fitting tightly into the covering between neighbouring projections 7, thus preventing longitudinal movement. As shown in Fig. 11, the fastening- device 7 is connected to the stiffening-sections 5 which are loosely connected by short links 9.
