25,224. Barren, J., and Green, S. K. Nov. 19. Sifting cocoa &c.-Relates to a sifting-machine specially adapted for separating the seed germs from granulated cocoa nibs. The inclined sieves 5, 6 are mounted in a box 4 pivoted on a central crossshaft 3 and provided with two adjustable springs such as 15 at each end. The sieve box is actuated by a rotary polygonal cam 22 engaging a projection 23 on the box. The motion of the sieve box causes the material fed from the hopper 7 to be thrown up as it travels over the sieves 5, 6 ; the elongated germs fall endwise through the sieves, and are collected on boards 11, 13 and finally are discharged through the shoot 14, while the granulated cocoa nibs are discharged through the shoot 10. In a modification, the box 4 is supported on spring bars at the sides and ends, and is operated by a cam arranged above it.
