Ball and float valves; float levers; strainers for valves; dirt,preventing lodgment of; connecting valves to plates.-Fig. 1 shows the construction of a ball valve for water-closet and other cisterns. The valve casing a is fitted with a perforated cylinder c covered with a perforated lead or other plate d acting as a filter to exclude dirt. The water passes out through the central tube d1, as shown by the arrows, from the supply pipe b, the sediment being retained in the cylinder. A screwed cap i allows the cylinder to be removed for cleaning purposes. The valve f, with its india-rubber washer g1, is operated by the ball lever which is formed in two parts g, h pivoted together, the outer part h having an inward extension fitted with a slotted link h2. The link h2 may be clamped to the lever in various positions, to regulate the position of the ball, and the water level in the cistern. The valve is connected to the cistern by means of a fixed flange and the nut a'.
