摘要
20,055. Cross & Son, W., Cross, J. W., and Kirby, C. Sept. 17. Ironing. - In a handiron heated by charcoal, air is admitted through a central aperture i2 flush with the bottom in the rear wall, over which is pivoted a cover k, partly solid and partly open but provided with an ash-retaining grid or with wire gauze. The edges of the sunken lid are, or the top of the body of the iron is, provided with studs c which leave an opening between the lid and the body of the iron for escape of combustion products. A rib d runs centrally along the underside of the lid, thus dividing the upper part of the iron into two flues and helping to expel the combustion products. A shield i is provided for the hand. The lid may be hinged at the rear to the body of the iron, and held in place by a lever-actuated catch f engaging a cross-bar g. An arched grid n is provided which supports the fuel and leaves a clear space into which ash may drop. A skeleton gallery o supports the grid and keeps the fuel in place. Studs m on the open parts of the iron bottom support fuel and provide conducting-pieces by which the iron is heated.
