Table knives; bread-cutters.-An appliance to be fixed to the blade of a knife, for use in cutting and slicing vegetables, bread, cake, &c. and for peeling vegetables, consists of a guiding- bar a, Fig. 1, having clips formed by heads b, b1, and springs d, d1. The clips may be arranged to slide on the bar and be held in position by adjustable collars. Two or more spring pieces g, Fig. 4, may be secured to the clips to adjust the thickness of the slice. The appliance may be stamped out of sheet metal, as shown in Fig. 6. The wire or rod a1 within the guiding-bar may be dispensed' with. The appliance may be formed in two parts b2, b3, Fig. 8, hinged together, and the part b2 may be adjusted to alter the thickness of the slice by projections on an arm j engaging with recesses in the part b3. The clips may be formed with shoulders c, Fig. 10, with teeth k in which the blade of the knife engages.
