Improvements in and relating to the Covering of Wire Cores with Fibrous Materials and Apparatus employed therein

Yarns and threads; special yarns, producing.- The yarn is composed of a wire core twisted with, and completely covered by, a sliver of asbestos or other fibre. A machine such as that described in Specification No. 16,003, A.D. 1904, may be employed, with an additional spool from which the wire 4 is drawn. The wire, which may be of copper, brass, &c., passes together with the sliver 3 between the rollers 5, 6 and down through the twisting section 7 of the combined twisting and winding device, and is laid, by a reciprocating thread-guide 8, on the spindle- 9 in cop form suitable for use in weaving. The section 7 is driven at a greater speed than the spindle, and the thread-guide may be operated by differential gearing between the Motion and the spindle. The twisting of the wire gives it a slight spiral form which prevents longitudinal movement relative to its fibrous covering.
