Brakes.-In a brake which is particularly applicable to motor-cars and other road vehicles, pivoted blocks are pressed into contact with the inner surface of a cap on the wheel hub. As shown, applied to an ordinary road vehicle, the blocks 6 are pivoted on pins 5 on a disk 4, which is fixed on the stationary wheel axle 3. A ring 10 can be rotated on a flange 8 on the disk 4 by means of the brake rod 14, pivoted on a pin 13 on the ring, the pin working in a slot 15 in the disk 4 to limit the rotation of the ring. The rotation of the ring causes its teeth 9 to force the blocks 6 against the cap 16 on the hub, and, as the inner surfaces of the blocks are slightly S-shaped, the teeth will be retained in the positions to which they have been turned, so that the braking force will remain constant. Axial displacement of the ring 10 is prevented by a guard-ring secured to the pivot pins 5.
