摘要
281. Hattan, A. Jan. 4, 1905, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Buoys.-A buoy for locating sunken vessels is mounted in a housing and connected to two winding-drums, so that, should all the rope be wound off one before the buoy reaches the surface, the rope on the other pulley may be used, this arrangement preventing the buoy from floating away from the wreck a distance equal to the length of the whole of the available cable. Fig. 2 shows the apparatus, the buoy 9 resting in the hinged cover 6 of the housing 5. The cable 10, directly connected to the buoy, passes through the ring 16, and is wound on, but not fastened to, the drum 11. The rope 15 wound on, and secured to the second drum 121, is attached to the ring 16. When the rope 10 is fully paid out, the slip hook 20 engages the ring 16, as shown in Fig. 4, and draws the cords 17 securing it to the lid across the knives 18, so allowing it to pass out of the housing.
