Lathes; milling; feed-motions.-In lathes and milling and like machines, tool-carriers &c. are moved by means of cams having a number of adjustable parts adapted to be readily fixed and detached so as to be re-adjusted. A disk b has holes which receive short rods a, Fig. 1, clamped in position when adjusted by forcing water by a screw and ram working in the hollow shaft into a rubber or like pipe c. The rods engage a U-shaped projection h on a lever linked to shift a valve x which controls a fluid-pressure supply for moving the tool-carrier &c. The valve is moved by an arm of a bell-crank lever j which engages a recess in its underface. In a modification, a flanged disk b is used so that the rods are arranged in a plane perpendicular to the shaft. The cam is adjusted by giving the valve lever the required series of movements, during the cycle of the machine, by hand, the cam pieces being free from pressure by the pipe c.
