Turning.-For turning articles such as pulley faces, buffer plungers, &c., the tool is given a uniform feed in one direction, and, in a transverse direction, a variable feed obtained by a toothed gear-train which generates epicycloidal or hypocycloidal curves. A worm-wheel 10 is driven by a gear-train from one feed-shaft 7, and carries eccentrically a pinion 17 which engages a fixed wheel 18 and carries at the pitch line a rack-rod 19, which drives a pinion on the transverse feed-shaft 8. This generating- mechanism can be placed out of action, the shaft 8 being then driven in the ordinary manner from the shaft 7.
