16,749. Custer, E. A. July 22. Casting.-Pipes are cast in permanent moulds by the plant described in Specification No. 16,746, A.D. 1907. A table 12, Fig. 1, carries moulds 17 situated between grooves 15, and is rotated with a step-by-step motion to bring the grooves into line with a track 11, so that a pouring - track 13 may be run on to the table over the mould until its ladles 14 are over the gates 25, Fig. 3. 'The ladles. are of similar shape and equal capacity, are tilted equally by a crank-handle and gearing, and are mounted so that their spouts are situated in the axes of tilting as described in Specification No. 16,747, A.D. 1907. The gates 25 terminate in U- shaped runners 24 equally disposed along the length of the mould, and this arrangement combined with the arrangement of the pouring-truck enables equal streams of metal to enter the mould, producing uniform pressures and equal flow throughout. A hollow perforated core-bar 27 with a sand or like gritty facing is employed to provide means for the escape of air. A longitudinal channel 26 is provided at the top of the mould to collect gas liberated during the casting. After pouring, the truck is returned up the empty branch 10 to be refilled from the cupola 6 through a distributing- ladle 8, the table 12 is rotated a step, and the filled truck 13 is run over the next mould. During the period of a complete rotation of the table the moulds are opened, freed from the castings, and prepared for a fresh pouring. The mould is fully described in Specification No. 16,748, A.D. 1907.
