[Cognate Application, No.28,178, A.D.1907, dated Dec. 21.] Turbines.-In sewage-distributing apparatus, adapted to travel over the surface of a filter or bacteria bed, means are provided for discharging the sewage &c. so as to cause it to drive bucket wheels, preferably of the type described in Specification No. 7074A, A.D. 1907, [Abridgment Class Sewage &c.]. A single weir pipe A, Figs. 1 and 2, fitted with lateral discharge shoots a2, is carried by an arm B mounted on the axis of the bucket wheel and fitted with pivoted arms stayed to the pipe A. These arms have at their outer ends rollers a' adapted to run on rails D. On finishing the traverse of the bed, one of the rollers runs up an incline d and alters the inclination of the weir pipe so as to reverse the motion of the bucket wheel. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the weir pipe A is itself pivoted, and the arm c, which strikes stops, permits reversal. In the form shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the weir pipe G and water-wheel F are mounted on the carriage E and the sewage flows from the weir pipe on to a tilting blade M hollowed out at the bottom and fitted with discharge lips m. The plate is pivoted about the pipe G and carries a fork m' in which is mounted a roller m3 against which bears the end n2 of the spring N, the other end being attached to the rail D. The apparatus is brought to rest at the end of each traverse by the wheel R, Fig. 9, bearing against a lug p1 on the weighted and pivoted arm P. The buckets of the water-wheel are formed trough-shaped with their sides radial to the centre of the wheel, and they fit together like the voussoirs of an arch.
