Cleansing-compositions.-A paste for removing metallic fouling from gun and rifle barrels consists of a mixture of vaseline or other lubricant and mercury, or a salt or compound of mercury, or potassium or sodium amalgam containing one part of potassium or sodium to about 100 parts of mercury. A small quantity of alkali such as sodium hydrate may be added to the lubricant before the addition of the mercury, or salt or compound.
