Crystals, obtaining.-Crystals, such as sugar-candy crystals, are obtained by placing mother crystals u p o n a series of horizontal sieves b which are moved up and down in the saturated solution in such a way that when the sieves move downwards the mother crystals detach themselves and remain suspended in the solution for some time. The vessel a containing the solution is jacketed, and steam, air, water, or cooled brine are introduced as required in order to keep the solution in a saturated or supersaturated condition. Several such crystallizers may be used together in a column system and the. liquid passed through them successively, being brought again to the original temperature and to the necessary degree of saturation after leaving the last crystallizer.
